The built in SNMP agent provided with a windows installation, implements only a subset of standard MIBs which can be useful in the management of a windows machine. We provide several extensions to this agent.

This extensions require windows 2000 and above.

Remote ping extension

This extension provides the ability for a network management application to establish a ping test  between two remote machine in order to test the availability and quality of the path between the machines. The management application can be notified on ping failures and statistics of the round trip times can be collected.

This is achieved by implementing the relevant subsets of the ping MIB. To view a detailed description of the implementations compliance with the MIBs click here.

The advantage in using the extension can be illustrated by comparing the old way of monitoring path availability, which required a deduction of the state of the path from the state of the paths between the management computer and the end points of the path, to the use of the ping extension which provides an exact information on the status of the path

Trap destination management extension

This extension provides the ability for a network management application to query and set the destination to which traps are being sent, this in addition to the user interface provided as part of the snmp service applet.

This is achieved by implementing the relevant subsets of the Notification MIB and Target MIB. To view a detailed description of the implementations compliance with the MIBs click here.
